Saturday “Safety and Resource Fair “ was a great success! Thanks to State Senator Iwen Chu and Maimonides Health for organizing this important event. Many local organizations attended the event and delivered helpful information to the community! The event is filled with free giveaways, raffles, fun games and self defense demonstrations. All the seniors and the kids had a great weekend!

📜Know Your Rights Presentation📜

Mr. Peterson from David M. Peterson, P.C Attorneys at Law delivered an informative presentation on the rights to compensation for 9/11 claims. They provided professional insights into the scope of compensation and eligibility criteria. Additionally, the Peterson attorney introduced two attorneys : one in personal injury claims and the other in immigration applications. Yesterday, we successfully distributed 600+ farmer’s market coupons to seniors in our community. In a coordinated effort, we handed out the coupons to people in need so that they can buy delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables from participating farmer’s markets. Thank you to our staff and SYEP for making the whole process run smoothly.

🐬New York Aquarium Trip🐬

Today, our summer camp students visited the New York Aquarium. They had enjoyed seeing the marine life animal and learned about the importance of the ocean and conservation. Aquarium can be valuable educational resources for all of us.

Yesterday, we continued our efforts of keeping our community clean and safe. Together with other organizations, we picked up litter on Bay Parkway between 65th Street and 73rd Street. Thanks again to State Senator Iwen Chu for organizing this event and to everyone who joined the effort to make our community a better place!

✍️Calligraphy Class✍️

Look at the beautiful calligraphy made by our seniors! Every Wednesday, we hold calligraphy lessons for our senior members where they learn to write these beautiful Chinese characters and draw these elegant paintings. Come join us in making more beautiful calligraphy writings and drawings!

Yesterday we attended a press conference regarding the improper usage of electric bikes and scooters, as well as other devices containing lithium ion batteries. Due to a recent spike in electric bikes and scooters being used for convenient transportation, there has also been a sharp increase in incidents involving those batteries catching fire. Many thanks to US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, State Senator Iwen Chu, CPC Director Steve Mei, FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, and other elected officials for expressing their concern for the safety of our community and committing to working to regulate the importation and usage of unsafe electric bikes and scooters.

Embark on a journey of holistic well-being with our TaiChi Class on every Monday at 10AM. Guided by experienced instructor, Master Mok. He is turning 90 years old. 🍰July - September Senior Birthday Party🍰

Today, we held a huge birthday celebration for our members with birthdays in July, August, and September!  This was a very special day for our 38 members as we gave out gifts, held a raffle drawing, and had a karaoke session. We were also honored to have been joined by State Senator Iwen Chu,  Assemblyman Colton William, other elected official’s representatives, and our great community partners to celebrate together with their amazing gifts.

🌴Summer Health Fair🌴

Today, we joined many health organizations at the Summer Health Fair hosted by Maimonides Medical Center. It was a great opportunity to inform our community about the resources we provide, as well as interact with other health organizations and learn about the incredible health services they offer. Thank you to our SYEP and staff members for working hard to promote our services, and thank you to Maimonides Health for hosting this amazing event today.

To raise awareness for breast cancer, we invited 華人SHARE 癌症關懷與支持 to hold a seminar educating our members about the signs, dangers, and misconceptions of breast cancer, as well proactive and preventative measures to take against breast cancer. 🧹Community Street Cleanup🧹

Street clean up is a way to engage with the community. Our Summer Youths and Volunteers joined with Senator Iwen Chu and other community organizations to clean up the streets on 18th Avenue. Thank you to our youths and all the volunteers today! See you all in the next clean up day!

Like every year, we hosted our Wellness Fair and Family Day yesterday . The health fair is being held on the crowed 23rd Avenue between 86th and 85th Street to offer free community resources and to help raise health awareness for everyone in the community. Estimated hundreds of people stopped to get free health screenings and receive valuable information pertinent to their individual and families' health, and the communities' landscape of comprehensive health initiatives.

📣Rally Against Homeless Shelter📣

Today our community gathered for a rally against the proposed homeless shelter on 86th Street. While we acknowledge the importance of addressing homelessness, we believe this location is not suitable due to its proximity to schools and residential areas!

Together,we will continue to push for thoughtful and effective solutions that serve both our community and those in need.

We participated in Brooklyn “18%and Growing ”rally at Leif Erickson Park today. Our goal is to secure equitable budgets and essential resources for our AAPI communities! Despite the rapid growth of the AAPI population, are not receiving proportional funding, which is insufficient !

Thank CACF for uniting us all the community organizations and individuals who support the rally.

Together, we must strive for the equitable budget we deserve!

🌍Albany Trip🌍

Our members are honored to have a special one-day trip to Albany yesterday! This is a unique opportunity to engage with our representatives and celebrate AAPI HERITAGE MONTH! We had a tour of the capital where numerous important decisions have been made and witness Senator adopt the AAPI Heritage Month resolution!

It was a day filled with learning, connecting, and advocating for our community!

Saturday we had an AAPI Heritage Month Celebration at IS 220 with Senator Iwen Chu , other local organizations and community members! This is a great opportunity to show diversity of our culture!

UCA Lion dance team performed at the event and showcased the essence of Chinese tradition culture , and also other performances that showcased the richness of AAPI culture!

📢AAPI Community Rally📢

UCA joined the 18% and Growing Campaign AAPI Community Rally on steps of city hall yesterday hosted by CACF to call for city council to adopt a fair, inclusive and equitable budget that supports and uplift the needs of AAPI New Yorkers and the organizations who serve them in the city!

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the city councilmembers who have stood up and expressed the urgent need for our community! Our community needs equity, and we need a fair budget that reflects our contribution and addresses our need. Together, we can drive the change we want to see!

Albany is hosting its inaugural NYS AAPI Summit, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of it! This groundbreaking event celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage, bringing together voices from across the community. It's a moment of pride and unity, and I'm honored to contribute to this historic occasion. Let's make our presence felt and our voices heard at the first-ever NYS AAPI Summit in Albany!

We are delighted to be invited to attend MSS Art Exhibition Opening Ceremony today. All exhibitions artworks are provided by MSS art students. From Youth Drawing Class to Older Adults Drawing Class and  Older Adult Photography Class, every piece told a unique story of resilience and hope.

It was truly inspiring to witness the creativity and passion on display, showcasing the diverse talents within our community!A big shout out to all the artists who poured their hearts into their work, as well as the organizers for bringing us together in such a meaningful way!

This exhibition runs from May 6th to May 17th, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and admire all the exhibited artworks.

🎉Small Business Law Passing Celebration🎉

Last Friday Senator Iwen Chu announced that after her  months of hard work and dedication, Protecting our Small Business Law has passed.  This is a monumental moment for our community and our economy.

Some small businesses owners stand up and shared their stories and their thoughts, in the past how difficult they run businesses whiling facing crimes. Now, they feel safer, because the law is increasing penalties for Retail workers assault, they are being protected.

We are extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and advocated for this legislation.

We are thrilled to have been invited by MS. 51 to perform Chinese ethic dances at their Asian Heritage Month celebration event. Thanks to the support of Senator Iwen Chu support , this event is all about honoring and sharing the richness of Asian cultures.

Our members have worked hard in rehearsals, and their performances received warm applause from the audience.

As part of the celebration, Maya Soni, an Asian American, graduated from MS. 51, performced Indian Dance, fully embodied the diversity of Asian cultures.

🤝Detective Wenjian Liu Ceremony🤝

It was an honor to be part of this momentous occasion, attending the ceremony of renaming PS.331 to The Detective Wenjian Liu School of Civics and Entrepreneurship, the first school named after an Asian-American Individual in Brooklyn.

It’s a milestone that our Asian American immigrant being recognized, especially in this AAPI Heritage Month!

In this way we can continue to honor Detective Liu’s legacy and inspire future generations of leaders.

We wanted to extended a massive THANKS YOU to all the talented artists who participated and shared their incredible creations with us. Your passion and creativity truly amazed us all!

Glanced back to last Saturday “Volunteer Day" Bensonhurst Park cleaning! Despite the fierce winds , our volunteers persevered and successfully completed the park cleaning! We teamed up with State Senator Iwen Chu    Homecrest Community Services, Inc.     Brooklyn Org,  together we worked hard to make the park clean!

Our Lunar New Year celebration was a great success yesterday! The lion dance performances were majestic and spirited, the god of wealth distributed blessings abundantly, the singing and dancing performances were enchanting, and the lucky draw brought smiles to everyone's faces.

The entire event was filled with the joyous atmosphere of the new year, echoing with laughter and happiness!
